Grab every opportunity to write
Life is busy and most of us have other important obligations that demand our time. Here’s how can fit time to write into your packed schedule.
The greatest fear
We always need to know what our characters want in their story. But what do they not want?
Borrow from the best
Creative writing 101: Don’t plagiarize! But that doesn’t mean you can’t borrow another author’s skill to jumpstart your own writing.
First line prompt
Choose one of these first line prompts. Set a ten-minute timer and write. Don’t overthink. Don’t try to force a scene. Just write the first line and see what comes up.
Write what you know?
When you’re starting a new project, there’s so much you don’t know! Instead of worrying about what you don’t (yet) know, focus on what you do know.
Breaking the moral code
When backed into a corner, we can all act out of character. And bad behavior is a delicious source of conflict and trouble in a story.
I hate to argue, but…
Conflict creates tension, propels a story forward, and keeps the reader engaged. And there’s nothing like a good argument (a literal conflict) to set characters at odds, amp up emotion, and get to the core of who a character really is under pressure.
